April 2011 FTTH Deployment Statistics - North America by the FTTH Council
This research paper includes the latest FTTH deployment statistics from market analyst RVA LLC. It includes updates on the numbers of homes passed by and homes connected to all-fiber networks, as well as other stats on FTTH service providers. Information on the status of FTTH deployments funded by the federal broadband stimulus program is provided, as well.

Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-verse Best Choices Overall for Bundled Internet, TV, and Telephone Service by Consumer Reports
Based on a survey of 70,000 readers, Consumer Reports found that Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-verse were the top recommendations for telecom services, followed by Cox, Cablevision, and Bright House Networks, depending on availability. Also uncovered by the magazine was the limited choice consumers faced when choosing a cable provider. Most markets are served by a single provider, while Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-verse are available to only about one-third of the U.S. And while almost all homes can receive satellite television, satellite companies typically don't offer Internet and phone service.

Internet Access Services Update by the FCC
The Federal Communications Commission released its latest report, detailing domestic Internet access service connections. Among its highlights:

  • 60% of the nation's connections were slower than the benchmark download speed identified by the FCC as minimum to accommodate current uses, including high-quality voice, data, graphics, and video ;
  • Growth of fixed broadband services seemed to have leveled off at 1% in the first six months of 2010

Home Networking Market Data by ABI Research

ABI Research forecasts a compound annual growth rate of 21% through 2016 of connected devices shipped into consumer markets, according to their latest research study. Networked and streaming audio are important segments of this quickly expanding market, according to ABI Research practice director Jason Blackwell. "Online radio such as provided by Pandora,…Rhapsody, Melon, and Spotify are… boosting the market for network radio," he said.

Mobile Infrastructure Market: LTE Poised to Provide the Next Uplift by iSuppli

Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless networking is the next big thing, according to iSuppli's latest research. They estimate that LTE infrastructure spending will reach nearly $28 billion by 2014, up from just $1.5 billion in 2010.
Initially, most the spending will occur in North America, but "Rest of World" spending will quickly outstrip it as LTE is implemented globally.

SMB Demand for Technical Support Services by Parks Associates

"U.S. small businesses (SMBs) could be the next boom market for tech support services, provided manufacturers, retailers, and providers offer fast and proactive solutions," reports Parks Associates in another recently completed study. They also found that SMBs are three times as likely to use professional technical support services, compared to the average consumer, and are more likely to purchase additional support services.
