J.D. Power and Associates Reports: Telcom providers AT&T and Verizon lead in Customer Satisfaction Ratings for Television Service Provider
While overall satisfaction has improved among television subscribers, AT&T Uverse and Verizon FiOS lead their regions with the highest level of overall satisfaction for Television.
Survey: 23% Of Internet Users Would Pay For 'TV Everywhere'
In a recent survey by The Diffusion Group, 23% of the respondents said that they would be willing to pay an additional $10 to $15 per month to have "TV Everywhere" on any Internet-connected device.
Parks & Associates has released three new white papers that contain important information for any broadband service provider: "Broadband Services: The Turning Point", "IPTV and the Digital Home", and "Digital Lifestyles and the Service Provider".
Broadband Services: The Turning Point
This white paper highlights the importance of bundling in the eyes of consumers and makes the following points:
- Customer satisfaction is tied to the service provider's ability to bundle and deploy services;
- The "connected home" is a legitimate concept that creates new vectors to add value for service providers;
- Connected home solutions must be built around offering, deploying, and maintaining core services.
IPTV and the Digital Home
The second white paper discusses the optimal features and strategies Telcos should be using during IPTV development. One of the simplest and most popular features for customers is Caller ID on the TV. According to Parks & Associates, "Both our survey work and the real-world experiences of pay-TV operators indicate that (caller ID on TV) impacts customer satisfaction and builds additional revenue at similar or even greater rates as advanced television offerings such as DVRs and high-definition content."
Digital Lifestyles and the Service Provider
The last white paper from Parks & Associates reviews the Broadband Service Provider roadmap and the evolution of the most common features demanded by consumers. Also highlighted is the importance of support, as many carriers (including AT&T, Verizon, and other Tier 2s) are offering Pay for Support Services as a way to garner additional revenue. "Creating proactive tech support services can provide significant cost savings, but along with this benefit, service providers can leverage their well-established brands and legacy of customer support to create revenue-generating services."

Wireless Internet Use from Pew Research
A new and freely available report from Pew Research was also released recently, discussing the changing ways Americans access the Internet. Among its highlights:
- Access to the Internet now occurs across multiple platforms
- 56% of Americans have used some type of wireless device
- 37% of laptop users have used some kind of long-range wireless broadband card to access the Internet

October 26-27: NEBS 2009. Verizon Communications has announced that its 15th Annual NEBS conference will be held in Baltimore, MD on October 27-28. The theme of this year's free conference is "Optimization of Telecom Networks Through Energy Efficiency," and Verizon is expected to introduce TPR.9208: "Thermal Management Requirements for Improved Energy Efficiency of Telecom Equipment."
November 3-4: OPASTCO 2009 Technical and Marketing Symposium in Bloomington Minneapolis. Also, don't miss OPASTCO's 2009 Technical and Marketing Symposium, to be held at the Minneapolis Airport Marriot in Bloomington, MN on November 3-4, 2009. This year's symposium theme is "Tools to Compete in a Global Market" and will include technical and marketing breakouts, technical and marketing committee meetings, and a reception with exhibitors.
November 10-12: TelcoTV will be held in Orlando, FL TelcoTV is the telecom industry's premier event for the exploration of a comprehensive entertainment convergence strategy.
