Market Research

PC Magazine Survey Highlights Fiber Service
According PC Magazine's Service and Reliability Survey 2009, a fiber-to-the-home connection (currently only available through Verizon FiOS) was rated highest by respondents, easily outdistancing cable modems and DSL providers. These results were surprising, since FiOS availability is still extremely limited.

comScore release on Broadband
Another survey, this one initiated by comScore, Inc., found that while broadband adoption in rural areas of the United States still lags behind that of metropolitan areas (75% vs. 89%), broadband penetration has been making increased headway in rural areas during the past two years.

Meanwhile, GigaOm's Pro latest report , "The Ongoing Battle for the Digital Home," has been released. Highlights include 4G's role in the future of the home user, the importance of easily accessible music, photo, and video storage, the continuing migration to video content from the Internet, the growth of consumer mobile phone usage in the home, and consumers' continuing unwillingness to pay for media unless bundled with a service. GigaOm Pro is available for subscribers only. For more information, go to http://pro.gigaom.com.

Feedback from BMMA's Fall Workshop
BMMA's Fall Workshop has come and gone (has summer even ended yet?) and by all accounts, it was a great success. Topics included how to reduce churn, as well as the carriers' continuing competition against the cable industry.

These and other discussions about all things ILEC and DSL will continue at the next workshop, scheduled for March, 2010. If your company is not already a member of BMMA, go to www.bmma.us for more information about joining this valuable organization. The Broadband Multimedia Marketing Association (BMMA) is a nonprofit organization formed to enhance the business prospects of vendors and service providers in the ILEC broadband/DSL services industry. Working together, we can grow the industry collectively and create an environment that allows each company to compete for its share of the larger overall market.
