NOW MULTIPLE USERS CAN SIMULTANEOUSLY ACCESS AOL BROADBAND WITH Actiontec'S WIRELESS-READY ROUTER

One of the First to Offer AOL Broadband Surfing to Everyone on Your Network

SUNNYVALE, CA (October 15, 2002) - Actiontec Electronics has announced that its Dual Mode Wireless-Ready Cable/DSL Router will be one of the first routers to enable multiple users to log on to America Online (AOL) at the same time with just one Internet connection. This gives subscribers to AOL's broadband service the ability to have more than one PC in the house simultaneously accessing AOL content and traveling through cyberspace.

The Actiontec Dual Mode Wireless-Ready Cable/DSL Router has been designed to easily network PCs and notebook computers allowing them to share Internet connections through an Actiontec USB DSL Modem or any Ethernet DSL or Cable modem. Its ability to handle two computers over a wired connection and up to 32 more using an 802.11b compliant PC card gives everyone on the network the ability to use AOL to surf the Internet at high speeds. The router has been tested and approved by America Online for use with AOL Broadband.

Installing the router is easy using Actiontec's new installation system. An automated setup wizard that utilizes color-coded cables and an on-screen pictorial guide helps users through the installation process and will get even the least-technical user set up and networking in minutes.

The automated wizard, known as Connection 1-2-3, automatically detects and verifies network settings and TCP/IP readiness of each computer and corrects problems, keeping user intervention to a minimum.

The router, the first of its kind to enable the use of USB modems for networking, features two WAN ports - one USB connection for use with the Actiontec USB Home DSL Modem and the second for use with any Ethernet cable or DSL modem. It also has three LAN ports - for high-speed Ethernet networking, a USB LAN port and a "wireless-ready" slot for an 802.11b compliant card, which activates wireless networking. There is also a second slot for future cards that will permit applications such as wireless printer sharing and VoIP access for Internet-based phone calls.

In addition, the Actiontec Dual Mode Wireless-Ready Cable/DSL Router features a built-in firewall, advanced 64- and 128-bit wireless security encryption, advanced Web site and Web service blocking, and power filters designed to audit and report Web browsing activities.

The Actiontec Dual Mode Wireless-Ready Cable/DSL Router carries an MSRP of $99.99 is available through AOL's online store - Keyword: AOL Shop Direct. Each package will include a router, an AC power adapter, an Ethernet cable, a USB cable, Quick Start Guides and the Actiontec Installation Buddy™, and Connection 1-2-3™. The product is compatible with Windows 98 or higher for a PC and System 7.1 or higher for a Macintosh.
