Cavium Networks’ OCTEON™ Powers Actiontec’s New Broadband Home Router Being Deployed by Verizon
Dual-core OCTEON processors enable breakthrough performance and value-added services as part of Actiontec’s MI424-WR
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., October 14, 2008 – Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, storage, wireless and security applications, today announced that Actiontec Electronics, a leading developer of broadband connectivity and broadband-powered solutions, has designed the Cavium OCTEON CN50XX dual-core, 64-bit MIPS processor into their next generation Broadband Home Router, MI424-WR.  The routers will be deployed to support Verizon’s FiOS FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) Internet and IPTV services.

Actiontec’s new design provides numerous connectivity options and quality of service (QoS) controls for critical services like voice, IPTV or security. Additionally, it offers future-proof capabilities including significant headroom to support increased bandwidth rates without requiring software or hardware redesign.

"Actiontec has brought to market a feature-rich broadband router with market-leading performance using the Cavium OCTEON processor," said Dean Chang, president and CEO, Actiontec Electronics, Inc. “We evaluated a number of processors to meet our stringent performance and feature requirements within tight cost and power constraints. The OCTEON CN50XX processor with its optimized 64-bit dual MIPS cores and hardware acceleration for networking and quality-of-service (QoS) delivered the highest performance for our application and was the best solution for us.”

“We congratulate Actiontec for developing an outstanding home router product using our OCTEON processor,” said Syed Ali, president and CEO, Cavium Networks.  “Our OCTEON CN50XX processors have enabled leading performance along with unmatched functionality in broadband routers for some of the largest FTTx/PON deployments in the world, in addition to a broad range of leading 802.11n enterprise access points and Soho/SME routers.”

The OCTEON CN50XX family offers the choice of 1 or 2 custom 64-bit MIPS core devices, operating at 300-700MHz frequencies with multiple software and pin compatible processor options.  Along with the best in class processor cores, the OCTEON CN50XX provides an integrated 128KB L2 cache, QoS, TCP, packet  and security co-processing in hardware with a rich set of interfaces such as TDM/PCM, multiple Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, PCI, USB 2.0 and many others.  With these advanced features, competitive price points and low power consumption the OCTEON CN50XX delivers an unparalleled solution for the rapidly growing high bandwidth broadband deployments in Europe, Japan and North America.
