Actiontec, Entropic Communications Launch First Multi-band MoCA Adapter
New MoCA Adapter, powered by Entropic Communications
Las Vegas (2012 International CES), January 10, 2012, Actiontec Electronics and Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: ENTR) today announced the new Multi-band MoCA® (Multimedia over Coax) Network Adapter that supports all three pay TV segments in the same device. The adapter leverages MoCA technology to deliver robust and reliable Pay-TV services to every corner of the home.
The latest collaboration between Actiontec and Entropic marks the first MoCA adapter that supports both the high frequency MoCA D-Band used in cable and fiber optic networks, as well as the mid-range MoCA E-Band for satellite homes in a single device.
This versatility simplifies inventory management and lowers costs for resellers, retailers, and manufacturers as a single SKU can now support multiple networks. Whether the end user subscribes to services from a satellite, fiber optic, or cable operator, the same MoCA adapter seamlessly fits into their home network.
The Multi-band adapter is based on the MoCA 1.1 standard and is backward interoperable with MoCA 1.0 technology. It automatically detects and joins a service provider’s MoCA network, requiring minimal user intervention.
MoCA technology offers a powerful, ‘no excuses’ whole-home network for HD video and streaming media services, using the existing coax infrastructure found in the home. As a result, it’s an ideal solution for creating a high performance home network as more than 90 percent of U.S. homes have coax installed, compared with less than 10 percent of homes with Ethernet installed.
“The new adapter leverages Actiontec’s many years of experience in MoCA-based home networking to create a solution that’s simple to install and use. End users can literally connect a game console, set top box or other home entertainment device in minutes. The adapter does all the work; no configuration is required, no need to worry about which Pay-TV Service Provider you use, and there’s definitely no costly rewiring involved,” said Brian Henrichs, chief business development officer at Actiontec Electronics.
“Actiontec’s multi-band MoCA adapter is another strong example of successful collaboration between our two companies,” said Vinay Gokhale, senior vice president, Marketing and Business Development at Entropic Communications. “As one device now supports multiple Pay-TV services, the multi-band adapter will ultimately drive down costs due to better economies of scale.”
Availability
An Actiontec multi-band MoCA adapter prototype, based on the Entropic reference design, will be shown at Entropic’s CES booth #31253 (South Hall 3). Retail devices will be available, 1H 2012.
