Actiontec, Entropic Communications Unveil a Multi-LAN Network Adapter to Enhance In-Home Wireless Coverage
Leveraging Entropic’s MoCA technology, Actiontec’s new adapter brings high performance ‘TV Everywhere’ applications to every corner of the home
Chicago, IL (The Cable Show – Booth #563) – June 15, 2011 – Actiontec Electronics, along with Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: ENTR), a leading provider of silicon and software solutions to enable connected home entertainment, today announced the Multi-LAN Network Adapter, designed to deliver more bandwidth, improved reliability and better network coverage anywhere in the home. Using the new multi-LAN network adapter, consumers can enjoy the best of both worlds: the accessibility and utter freedom of wireless networking, along with the reliability and performance of a wired MoCA® (Multimedia over Coax) connection, utilizing existing coax in the home.
Demanding TV Everywhere applications, such as multiple streams of high definition (HD) video to the myriad of wired and wireless devices, including iPads and connected TVs in today’s homes, require every increasing bandwidth, performance, and coverage. Actiontec’s Multi-LAN Network Adapter, powered by Entropic’s proven and widely deployed MoCA-based silicon, provides a seamless way to extend and enhance the wireless network using coaxial wiring for a more reliable, predictable, and “no excuses” quality of service for the whole-home network.
The Multi-LAN Network Adapter creates a robust MoCA backbone in the home to transport high quality, high data rates yielding speeds up to 175 Mbps, to significantly improve the signal in rooms where Wi-Fi connectivity is low or non-existent. As a result, consumers can have a high quality Wi-Fi signal in former dead spots – for example, connecting a gaming console in the garage or streaming an HD movie on a tablet in any room of the home – delivering on the promise of a better whole-home wireless entertainment experience, particularly for more demanding online applications such as gaming and streaming HD movies.
In addition, the Multi-LAN Network Adapter is equipped with four Ethernet ports. So, it can connect multiple CE devices in a single location, such as Blu-ray players, game consoles, or connected TVs. Consumers can easily connect their CE devices to the Internet and experience all their connected devices have to offer without having to string Ethernet cables through the home or invest in an expensive wiring project.
“Today’s consumers want any content on any device, anywhere and everywhere in the home. Our new adapter brings superior wireless connectivity to even the most challenging places in the home. The versatile adapter gives consumers more options and flexibility for connecting their devices to the Internet by leveraging the coax backbone already in place in their home,” said Brian Henrichs, chief business development officer at Actiontec Electronics.
“We’ve reached an inflection point, where consumers expect a strong wireless link everywhere in their home to best experience their tablets, laptops, connected TVs, Wi-Fi enabled smartphones, and game consoles,” said Vinay Gokhale, senior vice president, Marketing and Business Development, Entropic. “The high throughput and reliability offered by Actiontec’s new Multi-LAN Network Adapter ensures the link between all devices within the home is not degraded, providing the best possible wired and Wi-Fi performance and quality-of-service assurance to confidently stream and access high-definition videos and multimedia content.”
A hybrid MoCA/Wi-Fi network, leveraging Actiontec’s Multi-LAN Network Adapter, can be seen at The Cable Show, booth #563, June 14-16, at McCormick Place in Chicago. The network adapter will be generally available in late Q3.
