Actiontec Launches New Provisioning Application Enabling ISPs to Quickly Provision and Brand their Actiontec DSL Modems
Enables ISPs of all sizes to take off-the-shelf Actiontec DSL Modems and customize the network settings as well as brand, with one click
SUNNYVALE, CA – January 29, 2008 – Today Actiontec Electronics officially launched a new Provisioning Application that lets DSL Service Providers of all sizes preload their Actiontec DSL modems with their specific network settings, in just a click of a mouse. The software also gives providers the opportunity to add their company’s brand as well as direct links to shopping and add-on services creating more potential revenue streams.
This one-of-a-kind tool gives Internet Service Providers the ability to simply and cost-effectively customize their Actiontec DSL modems to their exact network specifications and needs so there are no complex setup processes – making the modem truly plug-and-play for their customers. As a result, even the smallest ISP can enjoy the same advantages of pre-provisioning that were once limited to the top ISPs, while also benefiting from Actiontec’s proven track record and industry experience that comes from shipping over 10 million broadband devices.
“Each DSL network has its own unique characteristics and settings making it harder for small- to medium-sized providers to gain the advantage of buying made-to-order devices in bulk, cutting down on the overall cost,” said Kurt Scherf, Vice President, Principal Analyst with Parks Associates. “The Actiontec Provisioning Application allows the ISP to add their network settings to the application and quickly download to each device cutting off valuable time provisioning each unit at the customer’s home or business.”
Actiontec’s software is a Java-based program that can run on any computer with Java capabilities, enabling an Internet Service Provider to customize their DSL modems using a simple menu. The ISP can adjust the modem’s settings for their network including specific WAN network settings such as PPP username and password, VPI & VCI Settings, and the type of DSL Network they have. DSL providers can also add their logo and create up to six unique custom links for any website they choose.
Once the provision settings are complete, technicians connect the device via an Ethernet cable and with a click of a button, the settings are instantly loaded onto the device and ready for installation in the customer’s home or business.
This product is also ideal for creating simple self-installation for the customer. Since the units are provisioned specifically for each customer, installation is nothing more than plugging in a few cables and turning the unit on. The customer is no longer required to schedule a block of time to meet with the installation technician, and as a result, both the ISP and the customer can enjoy a better installation experience and have the hi-speed internet service up and running quickly.
This application can be used with three of Actiontec’s most popular DSL modems or modem-router combinations including the GT701D, GT724WGR and GT724R. The GT701D was Actiontec’s first environment-friendly DSL modem. It features an ENERGY STAR power adapter that helps consumers save money on their electricity bill. The GT724WGR Wireless DSL Modem Router and the GT724R DSL Modem Router are full rate ADSL/ADSL2+ modems combined with a 4-Port Ethernet Switch. The GT724WGR also includes a built-in 802.11g wireless router.
