Apple’s HomePod Sounds Great But is Not That Smart
Apple’s highly anticipated HomePod is not creating the expected splash but rather a disappointing thud. The HomePod was released last Friday, and despite high hopes, the consensus among tech professionals is that the sound is very high quality but the speaker is not that smart.
Compared to other smart home speakers that use Alexa, Cortana and Google Assistant, when tested side-by-side, Apple’s HomePod came in last. Reviewers were initially excited that the HomePod could hear and understand every command, even with loud music playing. However, the speaker had a lot of trouble answering questions correctly.

Loup Ventures decided to put them to the test and asked four different speakers 782 questions in five different categories. Unfortunately, Apple’s HomePod answered only 52% of the subjects poised correctly. The other three speakers ranked much better regarding overall smart responses and usability.
Google Assistant rated the highest by answering 81% of all the questions correctly.
