Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and Disney Gear Up for VR

One thing is for sure – there is no shortage of content these days on a multitude of platforms.

Heavy hitters in the cartoon and young adult market like Cartoon Network, Disney and Nickelodeon are creating more content than ever before. And this influx of new material will prime the pump for upcoming entertainment using virtual and augmented reality.

VR Coming Soon

Nickelodeon included an AR component in their mobile game, Sky Whale, which they claim has around 2 million monthly users. Soon their popular game, SlimeZone, will also come to virtual reality thanks to a new partnership with IMAX.

In August of this year, Cartoon Network plans to roll out “Ben 10 Alien Experience” an augmented reality game for mobile devices. Cartoon Network has been in the VR space for a some time, offering games and headsets for the past few years.

Disney has big plans for new AR and VR offerings this year. Jamie Voris, CTO of Walt Disney Studios, described it by saying, “Technology is an essential component of how we make characters, stories, and worlds come alive at Disney, and we’re looking forward to the possibilities of what we can imagine and build together.”
