Discovery Communications is in the process of acquiring Scripps Networks, a leading developer of lifestyle-content for television and the Internet. Scripp’s brands include HGTV, Food Network, Travel Channel, DIY Network, Cooking Channel as well as the country music network Great American Country.

This week, CEO David Zaslav commented that they will evaluate their Discovery and Scripps assets for compelling OTT bundle opportunities with customers. Zaslav has goals of creating a presence in Hulu, YouTube TV, Sling TV and other services with Discovery’s and Scripps’ channels. They are also in negotiations with AT&T, Verizon and European vendors about partnerships in mobile streaming ventures.

Currently Discovery is in research mode, gathering all their facts and collecting data to strategize which models make the most sense.
