Netflix Nixes Binge Watching Game For Kids

Netflix experimented by urging kids to binge watch episodes of shows like “Trollhunters,” “Fuller House” and “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” to earn points. However, after parents complained that it is difficult enough getting kids to stop watching TV without Netflix offering them incentives, Netflix backed off and canceled the program.

The Program

The program was designed to test new interactive features within programming such as introducing collectibles to coincide with the programming. The goal was integrating fun and giving kids something to talk about when discussing the shows. In a statement to Variety, Netflix said: “We learn by testing, and this feature may or may not become part of the Netflix experience.”

Additionally, when speaking with Buzzfeed on this topic, Netflix commented “We’ve concluded the test for patches and have decided not to move forward with the feature for kids. We test lots of things at Netflix in order to learn what works well–and what doesn’t work well–for our members.”
