Did you notice anything about the Internet in the last few weeks? Well, the FCC’s new net neutrality rules went into effect recently, and, basically, everything’s still working. A court denied a requested stay of the new rules, and other legal challenges brought against FCC head honcho Tom Wheeler’s signature move will be wrapped up by the end of the year, as the market needs clarity on the matter to move forward. Wheeler: “(This would) give broadband providers the certainty and economic incentive to build fast and competitive broadband networks.”
Of course, nothing is set in stone, no matter how the legal arguments go. A new presidential administration, with a new regime installed at the FCC, could overturn net neutrality at any time in the future. In short, enjoy it while it lasts, however long it does last.
