Aiming to provide customers who have purchased a 4K Bravia TV with some fresh content, Sony announced the launch of a 4K streaming service in the United States. The service will provide content in the high-res UltraHD format, alongside High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology, and feature such Sony movie titles as Chappie, The Walk, Pineapple Express, and After Earth, streamed through the company’s Ultra Android app.
The Ultra Android app is scheduled to debut sometime later this year, and is designed to complement the new HDR TVs Sony unveiled at CES this past week. Sony also announced a partnership with Dish Network to provide the pay-TV operator with a selection of 4K movies, including The Amazing Spider Man. The Ultra HD service will be available on Dish Network’s new Hopper 3 DVR.
