Uber Has Plans for Flying Taxis
Uber is ready to take things to the next level with their Uber Elevate service. Their plans sound like high-tech sci-fi that has yet to be invented, but they claim they will be testing the system within two years.
Instead of hailing a taxi, users will be able to reserve a seat on an autonomous, luxurious, quiet electric plane/helicopter hybrid aptly named Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) vehicle. The cost is said to be less than that of a taxi ride.
Batteries May Clip the Project’s Wings
The biggest potential obstacle is figuring out the battery issue. Uber Elevate will need super electric batteries capable of handling thousands of flights per day.
Even if the project never gets off the ground (pardon the pun), it could help to advance the electric automobile industry and solve problems with fuel efficiency in general.
Despite having lost piles of money, Uber has hired some top-notch aviation engineers to help figure out the logistics and bring this dream into reality.
