What People Buy Using Voice Assist

According to eMarketer, a recent survey showed that 81% of adults have used a voice assistant on their smartphone. However, only 25% have use it with a smart speaker like Google Home or Amazon Echo.

Thirty-five percent of survey respondents had actually made a purchase online using voice assist technology. Many more demonstrated a keen interest in making purchases online using voice assist, for such things as meals or electronics. Other high-interest items or services for voice assist purchasing included clothing, personal care items and groceries.

eMarketer predicts the number of smartphone voice assist users will increase considerably by 2019.

This encouraging data has prompted companies like Walmart and cosmetic conglomerates to partner with Google and Amazon to support purchases from their warehouses through the built-in voice assistant. Another big voice-assist growth area is banking. Some of the respondents polled had already used voice assist to send money or pay a bill.
