TV Everywhere apps, which allow for authenticated multiscreen viewing throughout the home, saw their usage triple in Q2 2015, rising to 4.5% of programmer ad deliveries, according to new statistics from Freewheel. The same study found that multiscreen viewing through pay TV providers made up 60% of multiscreen monetization figures.
While desktop and laptop viewing continued to be the primary vehicle for digital video consumption at the home, OTT devices now account for 10% of home viewing. Meanwhile, smartphone viewing more than doubled over the same time frame. Overall, the rise in TV Everywhere and the use of multiple devices to view digital content makes it imperative to have a strong Wi-Fi signal that covers the entire home.
