Facebook Patent Will Turn On Phone Mics to Record Reactions to Ads
Facebook denies tapping into phones microphones to target advertising. However, even if they haven’t ,that doesn’t mean that they can’t. Recently Facebook applied for a patent for software that allows smartphones to begin recording when they hear a secret message hidden within TV ads. It has been very controversial.
As reported, Facebook wants to embed high-pitch audio signals within our broadcasted content. Smartphones would decipher these sounds or messages, record them, and then send them back to Facebook. Smartphones would trigger into recording “ambient audio.”
The whole idea is that Facebook would receive your response to ads you see on TV if you have an audible response at all. It is not surprising that many people are concerned about this patent.
