More Households Embrace Over-the-Air TV
Most US households subscribe to a pay-TV service like cable or satellite, but there is a noticeable shift as more and more homes are adopting over-the-air (OTA) TV, according research firm Nielsen.
Nielsen’s most recent Local Watch Report indicates that there are 16 million OTA households as of May 2018. With households exploring alternative options for TV, they are also pairing various forms of TV. For instance, many who watch OTA also subscribe to a SVOD streaming service. Nielsen reports that 59% of OTA homes have a SVOD service. OTA households are concentrated in the southwest region of the US, representing about 19% of OTA users while the northeast only represent 7% of households with OTA access.
