World Connecting at Broadband Speeds, More Mobile in 2010 - from In-Stat

InStat Research's latest, "World Connecting at Broadband Speeds, More Mobile in 2010," finds that global broadband continues to expand quickly, while mobile wireless growth is exceeding all expectations. The consumer's all-consuming desire for broadband and with it, bandwidth-hungry applications like online video, telephony services, and music downloading. is the engine driving all of this growth. "From 2007 through 2009, there was a continued growth rate of 25% in broadband subscribers worldwide," says Vahid Dejwakh, Industry Analyst. "Though this is expected to slowly decrease to 10% by 2014 as the broadband market matures, there are still some substantial gains to be made."

Worldwide Wi-Fi Hotspot Usage Soars, but is Model Sustainable? - from InStat

In yet another nugget-filled report, "Worldwide Wi-Fi Hotspot Usage Soars, but is Model Sustainable?", InStat finds that in the near term, Wi-Fi venue spots will show strong growth, while usage at these venues will expand at an even greater pace. AT&T, for instance, reported a 500% increase in usage from 1Q09 to 1Q10. InStat foresees that annual hotspot connects worldwide may grow to over 11 billion by 2014. Further out, however, the number of hotspots will reach a high point, and then level off. "Venue growth will begin to wane over the next several years as operator networks reach a critical mass and desirable locations become saturated. Growth in usage is expected to remain strong over the forecast period," says Amy Cravens, Market Analyst.
