Corporate Overview

Overview
Founded in 1993, Actiontec Electronics is dedicated to providing a full range of broadband connectivity and broadband-powered solutions that support today's all-digital lifestyle, and enable broadband service providers to deliver entirely new communication and entertainment experiences. Actiontec's offerings range from the market's broadest selection of IPTV-capable broadband home gateways for bringing IP-based video services into the home, to DSL modems, wireless networking devices, routers and digital entertainment devices.

Actiontec is known for creating robust, carrier-class products that are easy to install, manage and use. A pioneer in wireless networking, Actiontec introduced the world's first fully integrated "instant home wireless network" solution for telecom providers. Today, Actiontec products are used by millions of consumers, with hundreds of thousands more added every month, and have been adopted by major organizations including Qwest, Verizon, AOL, NTL, Dell, IBM, and HP.

The company is led by a seasoned management team with over 100 years of collective experience gained at companies such as Apple, Bell Canada, Fairchild Semiconductors, GenBand, Micronics, Nortel, Tellabs and Westell Technologies.

The Market
As service providers compete to attract subscribers with bundled voice, data, and video services, there is a growing shift away from traditional modems and routers to "smart" home gateways that can deliver the next generation of services in the digital home – such as home media, security, and automation applications. According to ABI Research, broadband home gateways will overtake routers in 2008.

With the growing complexity of the digital home, service providers will play a stronger role as they already have the trust of the consumer, as well as an existing billing relationship. They can bundle an entire solution across the home and mobile applications, and own the last mile to deploy complex services. As a result, "smart" service provider gateways that support total remote management and plug-and-play provisioning will gain market share compared with retail devices.

With its comprehensive, carrier-grade xDSL and Fiber product line, heavy investment in new technologies, and established relationships with Tier 1 service providers, Actiontec is uniquely positioned to lead the changing landscape of residential access.

Products
Actiontec excels at developing "smart" gateway solutions for service providers. Its dashboard gives subscribers instant visibility into their Internet connectivity and home network status, as well as enables providers to deliver branded, personalized messages and promotions to their subscribers.

IPTV/Triple Play Solutions
With solutions for Fiber to the Home (FTTH), Fiber to the Curb (FTTC), VDSL2, ADSL2+, and any major video WLAN standard, Actiontec offers a comprehensive line of IPTV-capable CPE equipment for service providers of all sizes and infrastructures. Based on a modular design, all of the broadband routers and gateways can be customized to carrier needs and offer support for all of the major video networking standards for the WAN and LAN including VDSL2, ADSL2+, Fiber, Ethernet, MoCA, HomePlug AV, UWB or HPNA 3.x.

Double Play Solutions
Actiontec's Modular DSL Router enables telcos to supply all customers with the same low cost base unit (one-port Ethernet ADSL2+ modem), and then add user-requested upgrades as snap-in expansion modules. The unique modular design eliminates the management and inventory overhead of maintaining multiple devices, while enabling service providers to increase per-user revenue with premium offerings. Modular add-ons will include a Wireless Expansion Module, 4-port Ethernet switch for wired networking, a HomePlug AV adapter for powerline networking, and a VoIP adapter for use with dual mobile/WiFi phones.

Home Automation and entertainment applications
Actiontec's zControl series of home automation gateways gives users the unique ability to centrally manage their household electrics – such as lights, security cameras, thermostats, automatic sprinklers and more – from a common interface on a PC, mobile phone, or Internet enabled TV. With zControl, home owners can now water their lawn, check up on their security cameras, turn on the outdoor lights from hundreds of miles away. Additionally, a companion media server will be available in mid-2008 that will add a media center with a TV interface, offering the ability to display photo albums and view home security images on the TV. The zControl-enabled Actiontec wireless gateways and routers will help generate new revenue streams for service providers by enabling them to offer smart home management as a value-added service.

Industry Leadership
Actiontec is the market leader in "solutions for the digital life." The company experienced rapid growth in 2007, and leads the North American home gateway market in terms of revenue share (Infonetics). With its best-in-class supply chain process,  ISO9001:2000 and TL9000 certification for its telecommunication service providers, Actiontec excels at high-volume consumer solutions.
