SUNNYVALE, CA (June 20, 2006) - Actiontec Electronics today announced that its MoCA-enabled Four-Port Broadband Wireless Router has passed interoperability tests with Motive, Inc.'s Home Device Manager product for remote management of customer premise equipment (CPE) by broadband service providers. The successful testing makes the Actiontec router the first Motive-approved device that offers support for IPTV/video on demand and other content delivery over fiber networks.
With this interoperability assurance, service providers using Motive's industry-leading software can remotely activate, configure and maintain Actiontec's Four-Port Broadband Wireless Router to streamline the delivery of triple-play voice, video and data services. This adds to the other benefits of the router, including a high-end CPU which can handle up to 80 times the bandwidth of competitive DSL units and the ability to manage multiple high-throughput standard and HDTV-based video streams simultaneously.
The testing was completed under the MotiveSmart™ Verification Program, which evaluates CPE for compliance with a variety of industry standards including the DSL Forum's TR-069 WAN Management protocol for remote management. Benefits of the interoperability between Motive and Actiontec for carriers include faster deployment and troubleshooting of CPE networks that use Actiontec routers. Benefits for consumers include the elimination of most manual interaction with the routers through capabilities such as zero-touch device configuration, auto-provisioning of new services, and automated device upgrades.
"Actiontec is a strong addition to our MotiveSmart Verification Program because of its significant market presence and because the Four-Port Broadband Wireless Router has fiber capabilities that are becoming increasingly important in deploying today's triple-play services," said RJ Brideau Vice President of Channels and Business Development at Motive. "Now, service providers can use Motive's Home Device Manager in conjunction with Actiontec routers with the confidence that both solutions are fully interoperable."
"Remote device management is essential for outfitting the digital home, and Motive has established a leadership position in the space," said Dean Chang, Actiontec President and CEO. "This interoperability gives our customers a best-in-class solution for automating the management of our devices as well as other equipment that is critical to delivering today's new broadband-based entertainment and information services, including video on demand."
Exceeding the TR-069 mandatory requirements, Actiontec's Four-Port Wireless Broadband Router comes standard with a four-port 10/100 Mbps Ethernet switch for wired networking, a built-in 802.11g wireless access point for wireless networking, and support for both LAN and WAN MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) networking allowing IP streams carried over fiber WAN networks to be distributed to TVs, PCs, VoIP-enabled phones and other devices through existing high speed coaxial cables throughout the home.
