Sunnyvale, Calif., May 20, 2008 – Actiontec Electronics today introduced its new
54 Mbps Wireless DSL Modem to the mass merchant retail channel, providing
residential DSL customers with enhanced versatility and connectivity options
for their home network. Now available for retail sale at Best Buy, the new
modem lets customers benefit from Actiontec’s industry-leading performance and
powerful feature set, for far less than the cost of a basic leased modem from
their DSL provider.

offering the GT724WGR and GT724R modems at mass market retailers, we’re able to
give residential consumers a more cost-efficient and versatile alternative to
the basic leased modem that’s typically equipped with a single Ethernet port.

Both modems have been rigorously tested to ensure full
compatibility with all major DSL providers, giving retail customers the
assurance needed that their new modem will work, regardless of their DSL
provider. Actiontec provides robust security to protect home networks from
outside threats; both modems function as an Internet firewall with three levels
of security, and the 54 Mbps Wireless Modem uses 64-, 128-, or 256-bit
encryption or WPA.
As the easiest connecting DSL modems on the market today, both the
GT724WGR and GT724R are designed to make DSL hassle-free. Actiontec’s built-in
Auto-Connect tool automatically detects the type of DSL service, as well as
network settings like PPPoE or PPPoA configuration and VPI/VCI settings. As a
result, home users no longer need to dig through their paperwork or call
technical support to find their correct settings, and configuring DSL service
is as easy as plugging in the modem. And an intuitive Graphical User Interface
lets subscribers check network status or view customized service provider
messages in seconds.
