Actiontec Lowers Operating Expenses for Tier 2 and 3 Providers with Introduction of Versatile DSL Gateways at NXTcomm08
New DSL gateways offer rapid provisioning, customized branding, and the most hassle-free end user experience on the market
LAS VEGAS, NV (NXTcomm08) - June 17, 2008 – Actiontec Electronics today introduced the GT724WGR and GT724R – new DSL Gateways designed to improve the bottom line of Tier 2 and Tier 3 service providers through streamlined modem pre-provisioning, reduced customer support demands, and increased revenue with up-sell and cross-sell opportunities. Actiontec will showcase these new DSL gateways, along with other broadband-connectivity solutions, at NXTcomm08 from June 17-19 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Booth MSL10126.
Three products in one, the new GT724WGR DSL Gateway combines a full-rate ADSL/ADSL2+ modem, 4 port Ethernet switch, and 802.11g wireless router into a sleek, easy-to-use device. The GT724R DSL Gateway features a full-rate ADSL/ADSL2+ modem and a 4 port switch for those customers not needing built-in wireless networking capabilities. By integrating multiple functions into a single sleek device, these versatile gateways reduce device clutter in home networking and lower equipment costs for DSL consumers.
As the easiest connecting DSL modems on the market today, both the GT724WGR and GT724R are designed to make DSL service hassle free for subscribers and providers alike. Actiontec’s built-in Auto-Connect tool automatically detects the type of DSL service, as well as network settings like PPPoE or PPPoA configuration and VPI/VCI settings. As a result, configuring DSL service is as easy as plugging in the modem for the home user – reducing both customer frustration and costly support calls for the service provider.
The modems’ fully customizable Graphical User Interface (GUI) enables service providers to incorporate their logo, other branding, and customer support information to help foster a personal relationship with subscribers. And the ability to deliver personalized service offers and add a link to their online store can increase service provider revenue through cross-sell and up-sell opportunities.
Additionally, Actiontec’s Java-based provisioning tool further lowers operating costs for service providers. This unique application pushes the full scope of a carrier’s branding and customized GUI screens to the gateway over Ethernet for rapid provisioning – enabling carriers to preconfigure a DSL modem in less than thirty seconds. This new efficiency addresses a major pain point felt by smaller service providers who traditionally did not have the quantities to have modems preconfigured to their specifications.
“Actiontec’s Auto-Connect tool, combined with the modem’s customizable GUI and Java-based provisioning, brings unprecedented cost savings and efficiency to DSL deployments,” said Brian Henrichs, Actiontec Vice President of Business Development. “In particular smaller DSL providers – such as Independent Operating Companies (IOCs), Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs), and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) – are now able to benefit from the branding opportunities, automation, and lowered operating costs previously limited to large carriers.”
Building on Actiontec’s years of DSL design and manufacturing, the GT724WGR and GT724R feature the same industry-leading performance and reliability that have made Actiontec a key provider to major DSL carriers in North America. To date, the company has shipped more than 15 million Internet Access Devices worldwide.
Both products adhere to leading DSL standards to ensure seamless compatibility with the carrier network, and exceed the performance requirements laid out in DSL Forum specifications. Actiontec provides robust security to protect the home network from outside threats; both devices function as an Internet firewall with three levels of security, and the 54 Mbps Wireless Gateway supports up to 256-bit encryption or WPA.
