Actiontec Goes Green…95% of Modems and Router Shipped with ENERGY STAR Approved Power Supply

Company instituting other green-friendly practices to lower carbon footprint and improve sustainability

Sunnyvale, Calif. – July 28, 2009  Actiontec Electronics is furthering its strong commitment to the environment. The company announced that 95% of its modems and routers shipped in Q2 included an ENERGY STAR approved power supply. With superior energy efficiency, the Actiontec devices help consumers reduce their electrical bills and protect the environment while enjoying impressive technological capabilities in the digital home.

ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy designed to help consumers save money and lower their carbon footprint through energy efficient products and practices. And according to the ENERGY STAR website (www.energystar.gov), Americans saved enough energy in 2008 to avoid greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 29 million cars, while also saving $19 billion on their utility bills.

To date, the ENERGY STAR program encompasses more than 60 product categories, including external power adapters. According to EPA statistics, there are as many as 1.5 billion small electronic devices with external power adapters in the U.S. and they account for approximately 11% of the national electric bill. The ENERGY STAR rating signifies that Actiontec power adapters use at least 30% less energy than modems with conventional power adapters.

“By opting for energy efficient household products, families can save about a third on their energy bill. We are fully committed to helping families choose ‘green’ by improving the energy efficiency of our product portfolio, while also continuing to innovate exciting technology features,” said Brian Henrichs, Actiontec Vice President of Business Development.

Actiontec’s ENERGY STAR products include: both Wireless N VDSL Modem Routers, the MI424WR, the next generation wireless broadband router; the M1000, the industry’s first modular DSL modem/router, the GT704WGB Wireless DSL Gateway and the GT701D USB/Ethernet DSL Modem.

In addition to boosting the energy efficiency of its products, Actiontec is taking other strides to reduce its environmental impact. The company is using recycled materials in its packaging, as well as focusing on smaller-sized devices, which require fewer materials, less packaging and less waste produced throughout the supply chain.
