Actiontec Offsets over 6 percent of its Greenhouse Gas Emissions in 2011 through PG&E

Participation in ClimateSmart program is part of Actiontec

Sunnyvale, Calif. – November 29, 2011 – Actiontec Electronics today announced that it has balanced out more than 39,000 pounds of carbon dioxide in 2011 through its participation in PG&E’s ClimateSmart- program. That represents more than 6% of all carbon dioxide produced at the company’s Sunnyvale headquarters this year.

ClimateSmart is a voluntary program created by PG&E that allows businesses and individuals balance out greenhouse gas emissions associated with their energy use. Contributions to the ClimateSmart program are invested in independently verified Californian conservation, restoration and protection projects that reduce or absorb an equivalent quantity of greenhouse gas emissions.

Current projects include conserving and restoring native redwood forests, capturing methane gas from dairy farms and landfills, and destroying refrigerants from old refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners.

“PG&E’s ClimateSmart program has done a tremendous job of enabling individuals and businesses to take an active role in reducing their carbon footprint,” said Brian Paul, chief sustainability officer. “We’re proud of our commitment to balance out our greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. Programs like ClimateSmart help increase the quality of life for our community, conserve California’s precious environment, and pave the way for a low carbon economy in California.”

Actiontec’s participation in ClimateSmart is part of the company’s overall commitment to minimize its environmental impact. Through its formal Sustainability Program, the company has launched a series of green initiatives, including: a 20% reduction in water consumption, stringent recycling and reuse goals (such as 90% scrap product recycling), and a 5% reduction in energy consumption company-wide.

ClimateSmart, a 501(c)(3) charity, was launched in 2007 by PG&E and is a first-of-its-kind program designed to let businesses take personal action to help balance greenhouse emissions and become carbon neutral. For more information about ClimateSmart and PG&E, visit www.pge.com/climatesmart/.
