Actiontec Showcasing MoCA 2.5 Products to Service Providers, Furthering its Leadership Position in MoCA

New MoCA 2.5 home network devices are capable of achieving up to 2.5 Gbps over coax and address key management needs for service providers.

Santa Clara, CA – January 16, 2018 – Actiontec Electronics announced that it will begin sampling its new MoCA 2.5 home networking products with service providers this quarter. The new MoCA Adapters are based on the latest MoCA 2.5 standard and are capable of up to 2.5 Gbps coax wired backhaul for a high-performance whole-home Gigabit WiFi network.

With this announcement, Actiontec is extending its leadership position in developing carrier-grade MoCA home networking solutions. Since 2006, the company has shipped over 14 million MoCA devices and received over 30 industry awards recognizing the innovation and industry-leading performance of its MoCA and whole-home WiFi solutions. Actiontec has been shipping MoCA 2.0 products since 2015 and will now be demonstrating one of the industry’s first MoCA 2.5 solutions.

Actiontec’s 802.11ac WiFi extenders and MoCA adapters provide a complete solution to meet the mounting pressure on home WiFi networks. Independent field tests conducted in early 2017 concluded that MoCA-based coax provides a more reliable and higher performing backhaul for whole-home WiFi. In the tests, Actiontec’s MoCA 2.0 WiFi extenders significantly outperformed WiFi mesh-based extenders in all test scenarios.

“There is significant interest in the market for MoCA 2.5, since it offers throughput that is more than two and half times MoCA 2.0 and also adds capabilities that address network management and security. We are very excited to raise the bar and begin showing our MoCA 2.5 solutions to some of the leading North American service providers at CES,” said Brian Henrichs, Chief Business Development Officer at Actiontec Electronics.

MoCA 2.5 is Multimedia over Coax Alliance’s newest specification, capable of up to 2.5 Gbps actual data rates. It is backward interoperable with MoCA 2.0 and MoCA 1.1. Highlights of MoCA 2.5 include:

  • MoCA Protected Setup for easier set up and addition of new nodes.
  • Management proxy to manage nodes that don’t have upper layer management support.
  • Enhanced privacy with additional longer password, using different keys.
  • Network wide beacon power for better control of peak signal power on the coax.
  • Bridge detection to distinguish between nodes belonging to different networks and to pass proprietary information between nodes before admission.
