We all love our Wi-Fi, but it can be frustrating when it doesn’t work. Connections can drop, lose speed, or disappear entirely, without warning or explanation. The cable industry is now in the midst of trying to improve the situation and provide a better wireless situation for millions of their customers. According to a new report, cable companies will have installed 14 million hotspots, including Cable Wi-Fi hotspots and homespots that use in-home Wi-Fi, across the U.S.
The report goes on to list some of the requirements the cable industry should aspire to: providing a unified sign-on for Wi-Fi access to services, reliable signal strength across hotspots, and simple user interfaces and navigation tools on devices. By upgrading the wireless experience, the cable industry can take advantage of a plethora of ancillary opportunities, including in-home wireless gateways, TV Everywhere, and voice over WiFi (VoWiFi).
