Plex Releases VR With Friends
Fierce Cable shared exciting news for Plex lovers. This digital media center company recently announced their release of Plex VR, an app which allows users to stream media through their virtual reality headsets. It allows media buffs to watch their favorite media in virtual environments to the tune of a 360-degree viewing angle
For now, the app is only available on Google Play and Android devices. You will also need to own a Daydream headset. One super exciting feature is the ability for Plex Pass subscribers to stream media as though they were in a virtual drive-in movie theatre, and then to share that experience with up to four users. Each friend shows up as an avatar, and their head positions are updated in real-time. In other words, everyone knows what everyone else is looking at. The app also allows the four friends to chat between themselves using a remote button on the headset.
Plex is offering this co-watching feature free for one week to all Plex users, not just to Plex Pass subscribers. Media sharing is becoming more popular. Other VR app companies are rolling out similar features quickly to keep up with the pace of user demand.
