New research from Strategy Analytics shows a drop of 8% in the global smartphone market, making it the fourth consecutive quarter of decline.

The decline is caused by various factors, such as diminished carrier subsidies, longer replacement rates, buildup of inventory, and a lack of new hardware design. Samsung experienced a 13% dip in shipped units while Huawei and Xiaomi have been gaining traction in the China and India markets.

Additional information includes:

  • Samsung holds 20% of global smartphone market share, closely followed by Huawei, Apple, Xiaomi, and OPPO.
  • Huawei is the second largest smartphone vendor in the world, representing 14% share.
  • Apple shipped 46.9 million units, holding 13% market share worldwide. While iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max are in demand, the heavy price increases are negatively impacting volume growth.
