Wi-Fi 6, also known as 802.11ax, is the newest standard in wireless Internet. It offfers new features and designs that make it far superior to its predecessor.

Orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) is arguably the most important feature of Wi-Fi 6 as it allows several devices with various bandwidth requirements to connect to a single access point. While a similar feature exists in the previous version of Wi-Fi, it only supported single transmissions.

Key benefits to OFDMA:

  • Offers a more consistent connection in highly congested bandwidth areas, such as airports, by allowing more clients to connect to a single access point at the same time.
  • Prevents interference with subcarriers.
  • Enables up to 74 clients to connect to a single access point by using subcarriers.
  • The more efficient network allows more applications to run.
